Mozarthaus Vienna, Vienna, Austria
Mozarthaus Vienna, Vienna, Austria The Mozarthaus Vienna presentation covers three floors. “I assure you that this is a magnificent place …” wrote Mozart on 4 April 1781 to his father Leopold in Salzburg. With this quotation as a starting point, the exhibition on the third floor deals with Mozart’s personal and social situation in Vienna.
The tour of the second floor looks at Mozart’s main musical and composer colleagues in Vienna and his cooperation with the librettist Lorenzo da Ponte in “The Marriage of Figaro” and “Don Giovanni”. Mozart’s Apartment on the first floor is the centerpiece of Mozarthaus Vienna.
Mozart and his family lived there from 1784 to 1787, during which time he wrote the world-famous opera “The Marriage of Figaro” and three of the six Haydn Quartets. It is the largest, most elegant and expensive apartment ever occupied by Mozart and the only one that is still intact today.

The museum houses where Mozart lived in Vienna during the 1780s. Located very close to St.Stephen’s Cathedral and the tourist district.
The admission is 14€ which includes a coat check and an audio guide. Overall, it was a very informative and one learns about the age Mozart lived in and his music. The gift store is very good as well with interesting gift ideas. A criticism I do have is a paucity of actual artifacts but rather reproductions and copies. Keep in mind, photography is prohibited inside.

For me it was exciting to be in the place where Mozart lived for 21⁄2 years. The initial set in context with the period both socially and musically is accurate. Luckily I didn’t coincide with an outing of British students who entered right after as the site is not big.

The Mozarthaus museum is a self guided tour with an audioguide and where Mozart lived in the latter stages of his life. It was interesting and gave some interesting facts (such as his Irish friend Michael Kelly), albeit it doesnt have his actual possessions and I have had better audio tours (particularly for the price of €14 pp). There were also group tours that went through that took over the place and made it cramped and the staff were not the most welcoming. Good for big Mozart fans but with so much to do in Vienna, I'd probably recommend something else for travellers if tight on time.
