Wow - what an experience!
I've been a fan of the movie, the Third Man, and have watched it multiple times. This film, starring Joseph Cotten, Orson Welles and war-ravaged Vienna, is considered by many to be among the 100 best.
We had a private showing after a whole day tour of the film locations. Even so, this museum and the private tour led by co-founder Gerhard was a unique experience, unwrapping heretofore unknown information, delighting the eye and the brain.
Gerhard and his partner Karin compiled rooms full of pictures and exhibits, not only documenting the film production, its international theater release, actor memorabilia, but also provided a visual portrayal of the times - post-War Vienna and the rivalry between the West and the Communist Bloc. The sheer volume and quality is remarkable to me, when I realize that this work was compiled by just the two of them without any additional government or corporate assistance. Indee, a true labor of love.
While we benefited from a private tour with additional insights from Gerhard, one could also view the collection during regular Saturday hours. Even if you are not a dedicated fan of the movie, you will find this museum an excellent introduction to modern Vienna.
