    The Royal Palace (formerly Imperial Palace or “dar el-makhzen”) in Rabat, capital of Morocco, is the main royal palace in the country and the official residence of the Moroccan royal family. Originally the palace of Alawite sultans, it is today one of the multiple palaces or royal residences of the “imperial cities” (dars el makhzen). This is the case of the Skhirat Palace, where an attempted coup d'état took place during the time of King Hassan II. Nowadays, the Royal Palace of Rabat is considered more of an administrative building, in fact, King Mohammed VI (son of Hassan II) does not reside there[1]. It is in this palace that the seat of government is located.

So happy we made the day trip to Rabat. The city is beautiful with several interesting sights to see. We have also been to Marrakesh and Fes, and Rabat has its ownnunique feel. Our driver Mourad provided exceptionally great service.

We had a very enjoyable and informative day trip from Casablanca to Rabat (1.5 hours each way). Hamza was a polite and considerate driver. A total of about 3.5 hours was spent in and around the city sight-seeing with our wonderful guide, Sharif. He was incredibly knowledgeable and joined us in the back of the car at our request for the drive to Rabat to give us interesting insights and background information and history. Great conversations all day. Thank you. Sharif spoke very good English and was informative and friendly. We very much enjoyed his company and conversation and can recommend him most highly.
