    Chamarel is a village in the southwest of Mauritius with a population of 700. It is named after the Frenchman Charles Antoine de Chazal de Chamarel, who lived in the area around 1800. Chamarel is primarily known for its scenic locations and nature attractions in its neighborhood. Among them are the Seven Colored Earth, the Chamarel Falls and the Black River Gorges National Park. The surrounding area is also known for its locally grown coffee and for the famous Rhum distillery .

We thoroughly enjoyed the private tour and the tour guide, Baboo (of Sam Tours) was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and provided a lot of historical and current information. The included lunch was also excellent. Baboo also took us to a very reasonable shopping store-Dodo Craft-with a very nice proprietor and his sister. We bought all of our souvenirs here. We highly recommend this tour and Baboo.

Abbiamo prenotato il giorno prima ed in breve tempo era tutto confermato. La nostra guida/autista Vikash è stato puntualissimo e, arrivati alla macchina, abbiamo scoperto che il tour sarebbe stato solo per noi due. Il tour è quello classico che propongono tanti altri operatori, quindi i vari parche, le cascate, il sito archeologico, il sito induista e vari punti panoramici per scattare foto mozzafiato. Durante i trasferimenti Vikash illustrava la storia delle Mauritius e le caratteristiche dei vari luoghi che di lì a poco avremmo visitato. Viene fatta anche una tappa in un negozio di souvenir a fine tour ma i negozianti non sono invadenti e nemmeno fastidiosi. Importare portare soldi cash, non si può pagare ovunque con la carta. Anche il pranzo offerto è buono, sempre cucina tipica mauritiana. Consiglio di prenotare questo tour al 100%!!!

The temples and statues were very impressive. The natural features were awesome, with great views of waterfalls and the 'wild ' aspect of the island, had a lovely lunch. Shiva the driver was very friendly, as were all the local people we met, and took us back to our hotel at the end of a great day .
