Explore the Southwest of Mauritius, and in true Mauritian fashion, enjoy a local lunch and rum tasting. You'll have a chance to explore the Hindu temples around the crater lake of Grand Bassin, and drive through Mauritius' largest park, Black River Gorges. Visit the famous 7-Coloured Earth at Chamarel and sample Mauritius Rums and the Chamarel Rhumerie. Enjoy a delicious Mauritian lunch, complete with a starter, main course and dessert.   • Grand Bassin
    Drive by the Mare-aux-Vacoas, Mauritius’ largest reservoir, on the way to Grand Bassin, a tranquil and serene crater lake considered sacred by the Hindu population. Discover the Hindu culture by visiting the temples around the lake and enjoy the peace and quiet of the surroundings. You will also be amazed by the tall statue of Shiva and the view from the highest temple. Be sure to watch out for the monkeys and wildlife. Note: It may not be possible to make this stop in the month of February or March as the area is also a pilgrimage site during the festival of Mahashivaratree.

  • Black River Gorges National Park
    Nature lovers will enjoy the incredible views of the Black River Gorges, the largest national park in Mauritius. Covering an area of 6754 hectares, the park is home to numerous endemic flora and fauna and provides visitors with beautiful hikes, with varying levels of difficulty. During your drive through the park and Plaine des Champagnes, you will also get to stop and admire Alexandra falls and viewpoint, and if they’re in season, like the locals, you’ll want to pick a few goyaves de chine!

  • Alexandra Falls, Union Park
    Nature lovers will enjoy the incredible views of the Black River Gorges, the largest national park in Mauritius.     Visit the popular Chamarel, the coloured earth site, where in addition to the geological wonders of the seven coloured dunes, you can view the Chamarel Falls, the most famous waterfall in Mauritius! And, make sure you stop by the giant tortoise pens before leaving the park!

  • Rhumerie de Chamarel, Chamarel
    Visit the famous Rhumerie de Chamarel and enjoy scenic views of sugarcane plantations and tropical fruits. You'll also have the opportunity to tour the distillery, learn about the rum making process, and most importantly, sample different varieties of rum.

  • Chamarel Waterfalls
    From the 7-Coloured Earth site, you'll have a chance to view Chamarel Falls. Chamarel Falls stands amid dense vegetation, and is the highest single-drop waterfall in Mauritius.

We had a lovely day out visiting the south of the island, despite the heavy rain at times. Our driver, Prakesh was very informative, sharing so much knowledge about the island, he couldn’t do enough for us and on our return trip, took us back to the north via the coast on the west, where we had some beautiful view. The rum tour was great and we loved seeing the waterfall. Lunch was delicious, in a lovely restaurant. 4star due to the rain limiting how much time we could spend in some of the activities.

They were excellent. They honored my request to cancel one of the activities we booked with 24 hour notice and I appreciated that. I went with my parents on a 2 day excursion checking out sights around the island. The driver was flexible with taking us to destinations we ended up wanting to go to (nature hikes weren’t for us, so we did more of the sightseeing activities). There wasn’t a guide, but there was a driver who was great.

At the start of our holidays we wanted to explore Port Louis and some other points. Unfortunately, it was Sunday and many attractions had been closed. But San, our driver found good alternatives. The lunch was very tasty! We enjoyed the day very much.
