About the plain tour

You’ll visit the prison La Cathedral, also known as hotel Escobar. This prison, overlooking the city of Medellín, was built specially for Escobar. He had anything his heart desired such as a soccer field, a bar, jacuzzi and a telescope which he used to look at his daughter’s home while they were talking on the phone.

Besides the fact that the prison was built for Escobar, he was also given the right to decide who would guard him. Of course he only chose guards who were loyal to him. The prison was believed to have been designed more to keep out Escobar’s enemies and to protect him from attacks, rather than to keep Escobar in. 

The government was willing to turn a blind eye to Escobar and his drug smuggling, but this stopped when it was reported that Escobar had tortured and murdered four of his lieutenants in La Cathedral. The government decided that they had to move Escobar to a standard prison, however before this was even possible Escobar went on the run. The ensuing manhunt employed a 600-man unit force!  

About the complete tour

You will be introduced to the life of Pablo Escobar during this tour. You’ll visit the Monace Building, which once was the home of the famous drug lord. The guide also takes you to Comuna 13, a community formerly known for violence, murder and drugs thanks to Escobar. A visit to La Cathedral cannot be missed during this tour, here you’ll discover how big the power and influence of Escobar was! To complete the tour, the guide takes you to the place where Pablo Escobar was murdered and his cemetery.
