In my opinion, pick up should be earlier than 8:00am (in winter) to still have time to see Valladolid while still light. We arrived almost 5:30pm and couldn't see anything except for the plaza and the church, which was a shame as there's still much to see in this city. A few fellow travelers were even commenting on why we were there and there wasn't much to see or do.

We have used Viator in the past and were very pleased this time was terrible. The van arrived late at the hotel to pick us up, then we discovered that even though we had requested an English guide, we speak Spanish our friends do not, they sent a Spanish only guide, so we had to wait for another van to pick us up. The van was packed when it arrived and even the smallest person sitting in the seats did not have enough leg room. This proved to be miserable as we spent 7 hours in total in the vehicle. We were going really slow and upon arriving at the first town, were told the van was not in good working order and we would be switching to a different van. The first town had a convent and a small market. There was nothing really to see in the convent except an exhibition of the Pope's visit. I have visited convents before where there was a rich history shared, numerous artifacts, and other incredible things to see. This convent was a disappointment to say the least. We left the town and drove to the cenote. We had lunch at a small local restaurant. It was pleasant and the host of the restaurant was funny and engaging. We then went to Chichen Itza which was great except for the van ride to get there. We finished the tour with a trip to Valladolid. I could tell it was a great town but, we were given only 35-40 minutes to spend there, it was not enough time. Then it was back in the van for the 2.5 hour ride back to our hotel. The guide was okay. He kept forgetting to translate in English what he said in Spanish so my husband and I spent a lot of time translating for our friends. There were two handles sticking up from the seats in the very back where my husband and one of our friends sat. Thank goodness I had a pillow that I was able to give my friend so that he did have to have that jabbing into his leg during the seven hours in the van. Both my husband's knees were bruised by the end of the trip due to the seats bumping his knees because of lack of leg room in the van. In conclusion, this is not a good tour to take. At over 400.00 American for the four of us, it was not worth the money. You can do much better Viator.
