Narvarte is known throughout Mexico City for its tacos, and we’ll kick off the tour with a visit to a neighborhood taquería that specializes in volcanes, a type of crispy tortilla cooked on a charcoal flame, smothered in cheese and poblano peppers. From there we’ll try tacos al pastor—picture a big outdoor roasting spit, shooting flames—and suadero tacos from vendors who’ve been in the neighborhood for decades. We’ll visit a lively cantina to learn more about Mexico City cantina culture, where we’ll toss back a chela, slang for cold beer, or a cocktail if you wish. And we’ll finish by trying a flight of small-batch, artisanal mezcals in a cozy neighborhood restaurant, part of a private mezcal tasting led by a local chef and expert.     Beyond the glitz and gloss of the Condesa/Roma sits the Narvarte, a solidly middle-class neighborhood known for its dozens of family-style taquerías and a tranquil setting that hasn’t changed much in decades. On this walking tour, we’ll show you the vibe of a typical Mexico City colonia at night, as we visit taquerías and bars, and join a local chef in a small-batch mezcal tasting.

Adrian was amazing!! He was so knowledgeable and taught us so much about the food scene in Mexico City and mezcal from around the country. We had an amazing time (despite the rain!) and still talk about the tacos we ate on this trip.

Our guide, Adrian, was so knowledgeable about the neighborhood and the food in the area that he really made it such an enjoyable experience. He took us to some spots that had some of the best tacos I have ever had. Plus, learning how to properly drink mezcal was something I will use everywhere I go.

We met our guide, Nico, at the first stop. Very friendly and knowledgeable, with experience in the culinary arts and food history, I think this made for a more enjoyable tour as he spoke about the history of the foods and the establishments we visited and ate at. Four stops for food and the tacos at three of the were all very good and very different. The fourth stop was at a cantina and we leaned about the history of cantinas and had a good soup there. We ended the tour with what a would call a high end mezcal tasting. The host at the establishment took time to explain the history of mezcal, how it’s made and what too look for in quality mezcal. Although not a drink I’ll stock for myself, I did appreciate it had found in later tours the mezcal was not of the same quality. Thanks Nico, would recommend (and did) this to anyone.
