In this tour full of colors and Mexican identity, get to know the unique architecture of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, the picturesque landscapes of downtown Coyoacán, discover the Xochimilco canals. The tour will begin through the quiet channels of Xochimilco in a colorful boat called a Trajinera. Listen to the romantic singing of the mariachis that floats in the air, while you navigate through beautiful floating gardens and then visit the neighborhood of Coyoacán, a favorite of some of the most famous painters, artists and writers in Mexico. Stroll through its cobbled streets lined with old trees and enjoy the pro-colonial atmosphere of this old neighborhood. La Casa Azul, the former residence of the famous Mexican painter Frida Kahlo. An important stop on the tour is the Central University campus, which houses the Estadio Olímpico Universitario and the Central Library decorated with murals painted by a large number of Mexican artists.

    On September 22, 1910, as President Porfirio Díaz Mori, the National University of Mexico was inaugurated, in compliance with the decree of May 16 of that year that formalized its Constitutive Law presented by Justo Sierra Méndez, 18 a law that did not give him the autonomous character that would acquire until May 28, 1929 when President Emilio Portes Gil granted it19 and authorized the construction of University City. The first rector was Joaquín Eguía Lis. The project of creation of the University, although without an immediate result, was proposed by Justo Sierra in 1881, being deputy and with the intention of counteracting the educational problem. The purpose of Sierra was materialized in 1910 with the inaugural act of the National University of Mexico, in the amphitheater of the National Preparatory School. At this time, being Secretary of Public Instruction and Fine Arts, Sierra, expressed in his speech, that the educational and scientific objective that the National University should concentrate, systematize and disseminate among the Mexican people, was to prepare for the future.

    Fantastic tour! Ramon was fantastic! He was extremely informative and interesting, as well as being a VERY nice person. He handled our group of 5 Americans (from in our forties, to our seventies) with extreme skill and attention to our needs. The tour was beautifully coordinated with our van driver (thank you Guillermo!) and there truly wasn't a moment of time wasted. I highly recommend this tour!
