This hike was amazing, and Alberto was an excellent guide! He checked on us often to make sure we weren’t feeling ill due to the altitude. Our group did get tired at times, but Alberto reminded us of breathing techniques that helped! He was very kind and knowledgeable. We were able to see Popo very active on our journey. The weather in late March was perfect. Light layers were enough to keep us warm.
We were given a great lunch with packed sandwiches, candy bar, water, an energy drink, nuts, and another energy bar of some sort. There is a picnic area to sit at about halfway through the hike. Alberto also gave us options for different distances and different scenic views that we could choose from. We highly recommend the longer route that gives views of streams and waterfalls!
There will not be bathrooms on the hike itself, but the guide will stop at gas stations to/from the hike. You can also go to the bathroom in nature if needed, haha. No judgment as it seems most people do this. Bring toilet paper for use of bathrooms at gas stations. You will also be going through switchbacks and reaching a high altitude. Keep that in mind! You will also be warned of the possibility of snakes (any hike in most places will have snakes). We saw no shakes on our hike and felt safe. You can use trekking poles ahead of you through some of the grassier areas if you are worried. The guide will lead the way, and you will be just fine!
Transportation is clean and reliable. This was an awesome day trip out of Mexico City! Highly recommend!
