Meet with your guide and drive to the ruins of Manzushir Monastery on the edge of Bogd Khan mountain range. From there we take a 3-4 hour hike on a trail of moderate difficulty through mixed forests and alpine meadows to 2256m Tsetsee Gun peak, the highest point of the mountain range. We have a picnic lunch on the peak with scenic views of typical Siberian forests in the background before heading back down. We visit the monastery complex which was originally built in 1733. It was completely destroyed during anti-religion campaigns of 1930-ies with just the main temple remaining to these days. But apart from it we will see a few sections of shattered walls, foundations, stone terraces and some stone niches in the cliffs. The main temple building was recently been renovated and now serves as museum. We return to Ulaanbaatar in late afternoon.

Batbayar and his colleague were super helpful. I wanted to hike on Mt Bogd Khan but travelling solo made a tour very expensive. Instead Batbayar arranged a car and driver for me and gave me lots of tips, maps, GPS tracks and advice so that I could visit and hike on my own. The service was exceptional and their English excellent. I would highly recommend them whether you are looking to join a tour or for some help and advice to make a trip independently.

This is a great way to escape from the city for a day and get a little exercise. My girlfriend and I were the only 2 people in the group and we really enjoyed speaking with our informative and interesting guide. We did a 12-km round-trip hike to the top of Mt. Bogd Khan for some great views of the city. The hike is moderately strenuous and a good portion of it is on rocks or through a wooded area. We saw lots of squirrels, but no deer or foxes. We had a beautiful sunny day, and our hike was one of the highlights of our trip to Mongolia.
