The Positive.
The resort is beautiful. The food was amazing. The staff were very friendly (there was a cranky one here or there) the shows were excellent and the weather was nothing but severe clear and hot.
The negative.
Upon our arrival, a severely long wait at customs and immigration had us pretty weary upon arrival to the front desk of Ocean Eden bay. A relative of mine was arriving a day later than us and he had booked something they call “Privilege”. In order to ensure we could spend time with him we decided to upgrade.
For a considerable $490 us ($684 ca) we decided to upgrade. They gladly accepted our money but did not inform us of exactly what the privilege included. We were led to believe there were two privilege restaurants, and a secluded privilege beach area.
On day 3 of our stay we accidentally bumped into a nice young man named Jamario. Noticing our privilege wrist bands, he asked us who our “butler” was? We both exclaimed “what”?
Jamario further explained that we should have been assigned two butler’s (morning/evening shifts) There function to provide basically anything we needed. Ie; having fridge restocked, booking restaurant reservations, providing rides by golf cart around the very large resort, and any concerns to name but a few services.
On the beach everyday were non privileged guests in the chairs reserved for paying guests. Periodically hotel security would see them, but more often notified by “paying patrons” and they would be asked to vacate. (Sounds snobby but I paid good money for this). One group came mixed privilege and non and were allowed to stay even after being approached by security?
We were not informed by front desk of butler’s hours so the times we did try to utilize their services they weren’t available to assist us.
There is WAY more to describe here but bottom line, we were NOT at all happy having spent the extra money when we ended up doing everything ourselves.
We went to guest services to see about having our privilege cost returned and were offered 30% off the cost of privilege the “next” time we visit. We are elderly and on a fixed budget and will now NOT be returning to this resort. Had they given half our money for privilege back I would have returned, but not purchased the privilege package.
I will pay a little extra when booking and stay at Sandals where we were last time.
