  • Abadia de Montserrat, Montserrat, Spain
    Montserrat is a rocky mountain located 50 km to the southwest of Barcelona. It is considered the most significant and important mountain of Catalonia. The etymology of Montserrat comes from Catalan Mont (mountain) and serrat (serrated). The mountain receives its name for its peculiar morphology. In 1987 Montserrat was declared a Natural Park to ensure its conservation. The highest peak is called Sant Jeroni (Saint Jerome) and stands at 1,236 meters above sea level. Besides the main monastery of Santa María de Montserrat, there is a great number of small churches and chapels, some of them abandoned. The main monastery stands at 720 meters above sea level. Nowadays there is a community of 80 monks that live there and follow the rule of Saint Benedict. When you arrive, you will enjoy an introduction to the history of the monastery.

    The Mountain has many hiking routes. The routes are long and it can take hours to finish them. As you will have some free time, a good option is to walk to the cross of Sant Miguel (approximately 15 minutes away from the monastery), it offers one of the best panoramic views of the mountain and the monastery.

This tour was great and a must-visit if you are spending time in Barcelona. The mountains of Montserrat and the views are absolutely stunning, and the Montserrat monastery, basilica, and Madonna are beautiful. The tour guides Anna and Lorena and the bus driver Jordie were awesome. One thing you should keep in mind is look at the itinerary and make sure you don’t want to do more in Montserrat. After the tour, we get free time in Montserrat, about an hour and a half. There are lots of activities in Montserrat like trains up the mountains to see the views and cable cars, which you won’t have time to do if you take this tour. Make sure you know you’re not missing anything you want to do and use your time wisely. The tour also comes with free experiences. The bus drive was very scenic and the guides pointed out important landmarks along the way. I learned a lot from this tour and I definitely recommend it.

A lot of wasted time . The check in super slow took like 30 mins then the ride there which was ok 55 mins . Then checking the audio equipment which for a couple of us didn’t work 15 mins . A brief explanation and we went inside the church and then only 12 mins left to look around which was not enough . The tour guide was the best part of it but I could have easily done it with paying for this tour .

Excellent tour, very well organized and clear. The guide Anna was great, in addition to the shared knowledge, is super attentive. The place is beautiful for its atmosphere, landscape and history. It's worth a visit!
