It is always expected that you will bargain over prices in the markets, but in most shops bargaining is also widely practiced. Most shopkeepers give discounts if you buy more than one item, and give a greater discount with each additional item purchased.

We were really lucky to have an excellent guide. He brought us to places within the Medina which are not usually where the tourists go. We talked to crafters in the back alleys and we were not asked to buy. They just showed us how they did things so it was very pleasant. Going around and just shopping is not much of a learning experience. This is the oldest medieval city in the world and it deserves to be known to be appreciated well.
