6:00pm: Your tour ends with a drop-off at Tangier's port or your hotel or the closest drop-off point in TangierChefchaouen also known as Chaouen, is a city in northwest Morocco. It is the chief town of the province of the same name, and is noted for its buildings in shades of blue. Chefchaouen is situated just inland from Tangier and Tétouan.
The city was founded in 1471as a small fortress by Moulay Ali ibn Rashid al-Alami. Al-Alami founded the city to fight the Portuguese invasions of northern Morocco. Along with the Ghomara tribes of the region, many Moriscos and Jews settled here after the Spanish Reconquista in medieval times. In 1920, the Spanish seized Chefchaouen to form part of Spanish Morocco. Spanish troops imprisoned Abd el-Krim in the kasbah from 1916 to 1917, after he talked with the German consul Dr. Walter Zechlin (1879–1962). After defeating him with the help of the French, Abd el-Krim was deported to Réunion in 1926. Spain returned the city after the independence of Morocco in 1956.
Chefchaouen is a popular shopping destination as well, as it offers many native handicrafts that are not available elsewhere in Morocco, such as wool garments and woven blankets. The goat cheese native to the area is also popular with tourists.
Chefchaouen's blue walls are a popular subject of interest. There are several theories as to why the walls were painted blue. One popular theory is that the blue keeps mosquitos away, another is that Jews introduced the blue when they took refuge from Hitler in the 1930s. The blue is said to symbolize the sky and heaven, and serve as a reminder to lead a spiritual life.
The growing tourist industry is geared especially towards Spanish tourists, who are numerous during great Catholic feasts like Semana Santa and Christmas.

An excellent service and experience! Highly recommended (both the trip and this very company).
The car was clean, new, with enough leg room. We had AC, and the Wi-Fi was excellent, very reliable.
The driver, Ilyas, arrived on time, was patient while we checked out from our hotel. He is an excellent driver. He accommodated our requests and was very friendly. He made sure to stop where we can take good pictures, something that was very appreciated on our end. He was good with his recommendations and unlike some people did not try to push us to eat at a specific restaurant or cafe. He just provided recommendations when asked for, otherwise left us unrestrained. He stayed in touch with me by text while we toured the city on our own.
We originally booked Chefchaouen and Tetouan, but had to cancel the second part (we chose to spend more time in Chefchaouen). He again was patient though we had a delay at a restaurant.
In our way back, Ilyas recommended places in Tangier for the few hours we have left in the city, and dropped us of in one of them at our request. Once again my friends were more than happy with his recommendations.
The people of Chefchaouen are super nice. We did not use a guide, but were asking people for directions and information. (Do not engage with anyone offering you drugs). It sure did help that I speak the language so I was able to speak to everyone from all ages. But some locals have allowed my friends (do not speak the local language) to take pictures of their entrances and were polite and friendly, even without a conversation. My friends were very happy with the local vibe.
We always double-check the availability with our local partners for each booking. Even though this is usually a swift process, it can take up to 24 hours. Once this process is completed you will receive your voucher or ticket by email. If our local partner is not able to confirm your booking we will offer you the best possible alternative. If the new date and/or time doesn’t fit your itinerary, we will reimburse the full amount paid.
How great that you want to share your experience! Your feedback helps other travelers to make a better choice.
