Why tour with a guide when you can have the mayor of the city show you around? That’s what it felt like. Hamid knows every fact, every business, and seemingly, everybody in the city. Other guides were asking for his help. He’s got a lot of personality and is very funny too.
Our crew of parents and teens were not easy to please. Hamid listened to our desires and put together a modified version of his usual Tangier day tour to make everyone happy. Not afraid to go off script (we needed specific souvenirs, coffee, pharmacy, bathrooms, etc.) and improvise. Hamid was communicative, very knowledgeable, efficient, and accommodating. He was a great iPhone photographer too.
He went above and beyond to make sure that our family was prioritized on a very busy day and even stuck with us to ensure our return ferry tickets were changed at the terminal.
Tips:
* Parking lot in Tarifa terminal was full. Parking outside the harbor was extremely hard to find. Plan extra time if you’re driving, just in case and be prepared to parallel park on the street and walk several blocks.
* Ferry crossings can be rough. Some of our party (and many on our boat) were vomiting most of the morning. Buy Dramamine for those with weak sea legs. Return ferry was a breeze with no issues. However, both crossings were late (mostly due to arrival passport control/customs lines.
* Dress in layers during if visiting in April. It was very sunny and warm. It was also windy and freezing. Wear good walking shoes that you don’t mind getting a little dirty/sandy too.
* Bring extra mobile phone battery and charging cable
