Great way to spend a pre-work week for a solo traveler (or a group), with an adventure waterfall hike and coffee making tour after. Innocent picked me up from my Moshi hotel and we had a lovely day together. He was knowledgeable and easy to be around. The waterfall hike was muddy! If there has been any rain I strongly suggest hiking boots versus sneakers. Innocent made sure I made it safely there and back. The coffee experience was a highlight. I strongly suggest using this guide for a wonderful day trip!
After six incredible days on safari, this tour was the perfect change of pace and an amazing way to experience another side of Tanzania. We were picked up right on time by our guide, Innocent, from our hotel in Arusha. The drive to Materuni Village took a bit over two hours due to road construction between Arusha and Moshi, but Innocent kept us informed and the ride was comfortable.
Once we arrived, we started our hike to the Materuni Waterfalls. The trail was muddy due to morning rain, so be prepared with proper footwear—or you can rent rain boots at the start, which is a great option if conditions are very wet and muddy. Despite the mud, the hike was beautiful and very doable. It took us a bit longer (about 1.5 hours) to reach the waterfall, but every step was worth it—the falls are stunning!
Innocent was knowledgeable and shared so much about the local nature, the Chaga tribe, and life in the village as we walked. The entire hike took around 3 hours for our group, and we had a lot of fun along the way.
After the hike, we enjoyed a delicious lunch prepared by the Chaga people. Everything was flavorful, and we especially appreciated being served brown rice, which they typically reserve for special occasions. The hospitality was warm and welcoming.
The coffee tour that followed was another highlight. We learned about the coffee-making process from harvesting to roasting—all done in the traditional Chaga way. The hands-on demonstration was engaging, and the freshly brewed coffee at the end was truly delicious.
Though the day was cloudy and we didn’t initially see Mount Kilimanjaro, Innocent went the extra mile to stop at a viewpoint on our way back. Just as the clouds began to clear, we were able to catch a glimpse of the summit—a special moment to cap off the day!
We were a group of eight (two families), and everything ran smoothly. One family had a flight from Kilimanjaro Airport that night, and Innocent made sure they got there on time before dropping the rest of us at our hotel in Arusha. Despite returning late, Innocent remained attentive, professional, and kind throughout.
Communication before and during the trip was easy and reliable via WhatsApp. If you’re in Tanzania for a safari and have a bit of extra time, I highly recommend this tour. It’s a refreshing and enriching experience that showcases the natural beauty of the region and the warmth of the local people. Thank you, Innocent, for an unforgettable day!

This was a fantastic experience from start to finish. Our friendly guide picked us up from our hotel in Arusha and brought us back in the evening. Along the way, he shared lots of interesting insights about Tanzania, the local culture, and the region, but also knew when to give us quiet time to simply enjoy the ride.
We started with a scenic hike on the lower slopes of Kilimanjaro to a beautiful waterfall. Afterwards, we had lunch with locals and learned how to make traditional Kilimanjaro coffee from beans to cup.
On the way back, he stopped at a perfect viewpoint for photos of Mount Kilimanjaro: a great way to end the day.
Highly recommended for anyone looking for nature, culture, and adventure in one trip!
