We completed the 7 day Rongai Route in mid December and it was the experience of a lifetime. It can be rather stressful choosing a trekking company from overseas and we were so pleased with the service that Kilimanjaro Brothers provided. Their marketing team answered all of our many emails in an incredibly timely fashion, I don’t think they sleep! Our trip was seamless starting from the time Mr. Sherif picked us up at the airport until the day we left. We had an incredible team supporting us, our guide Able and assistant guide Elli, cook Edward, waiter August, toilet porter Dismas, summit porter Stanley (who is amazing and we hope he becomes a guide!) and the rest of the porters Martin, Frank, Daniel, Juma, Alex, Shija & Masanja we were humbled by your strength and positive attitudes!
The food was great and we always had enough to eat. Our tent and sleeping mats were comfortable. Able gave us a thorough explanation each evening as to what to expect the following day and was very conscious of checking our heart rate and oxygen levels. He carried my pack on summit night and Stanley brought ginger tea which was welcomed as we took a break before reaching the summit.
We found the last two days descending the most difficult of the trek as our legs were sore and weary. The last 18km hike was a hard push but we felt so accomplished as we sat down to a hot lunch and a song from our team at the gate.
We followed the trek with 3 days of safari guided by Mr. Sherif! His knowledge of the animals and birds was impressive and we felt comfortable with him immediately. We couldn’t have asked for a better driver and safari guide. He is definitely an asset to the company and we very much enjoyed our time with him.
The day before the trek we spent the afternoon at a Maasai village which was also an amazing experience. We absolutely recommend taking the time and thoroughly enjoyed meeting the people, going on a bush walk and enjoying a meal there.
We couldn’t have asked for a better experience!
If you’re thinking about going on this adventure make sure you factor into your budget a good tip for the team that will be supporting you. They are the hardest working people that we’ve had the pleasure of meeting!
