Our tour offers a memorable day in one of Bavaria’s most scenic and unspoiled areas. For over five centuries, this stunning monastery has been home to Benedictine monks, continuing the traditions of hospitality and beer brewing that you can enjoy today.
On the scenic train journey from Munich through the Bavarian countryside, your guide will share the monastery’s rich history, from its origins as a castle for the Counts of Andechs From its origins as a castle for the Counts of Andechs—whose tale of rise, betrayal, and downfall will captivate you— to its transformation into a Benedictine institution that has thrived for centuries. You will also learn about the monastic tradition and the daily life of a monk.
Afterward you can hike a medieval pilgrimage route with wonderful views of the countryside, or take a bus if preferred and at the monastery, explore the stunning Baroque church, then relax in the beer hall or beer garden with traditional homemade beer and locally sourced food.

Tom was very knowledgeable about the abbey and its history. He was very engaging and made the day fun. I would certainly do other tours with Tom's Tours.
