Having done Luaus in Hawaii and other similar activities in other countries, I was a little underwhelmed with the overall experience. The staff is engaging and food was ok but the event does move a little too slow and with humidity and mosquitos, by the end it can get a little too much. There were vegetarian options arranged for us which was great but going through the village (which looks very made up) and then the long performance which got a little repetitive, I think the staff can do a better job of moving things along and providing a more authentic experience.

Very cool to experience how the local villagers lived back in the day. Upon arrival we were greeted with a song which the staff sung.
Our guide was very knowledgeable and took us through all the sites and explained the different aspects of the village.
We went into the chief's hut where he allowed us to take a photo with him.
After the tour we went back to the eating area and chilled for a bit and got some drinks, then they took everyone over to the lovo where the meat was cooking and showed us how they prepared and cooked the meat. Then we got back to the eating area where they performed a kava ceremony while the food was being prepared. They needed someone to act as the chief from the crowd so I got up and got to sit front and centre which was a cool experience.
After this the food was served. Plenty of food options were available, personal fave was the fried cassava which had a slight salt and pepper seasoning to it, and the chicken from the lovo.
After everyone had finished eating the staff started performing for us, we saw some war dances, the women dancing, fire dancing and then they started to get the crowd involved. First was a coconut husking competition and then an all in dance where we learned a traditional dance, and then did a conga line type of dance where the crowd would lead it.
At the end they did a thank you song and then waved us off as we left the venue.
Highly recommend doing this if you're in Fiji!

Very enjoyable experience. Very friendly and hospitiable staff. The food was very good. They showed us how some of the food was prepared and different parts of village life. They put on a wonderful show including audience participation.
Highly recommend this tour.
