I will never forget this weekend in my entire life. The drive passed super quick because we had many interesting discussions about Kenya, religion, National and international politics, health, animals and Netflix series. Julius is a funny, responsible guide who will certainly match all your expectations. You want to do budget (like me), he will certainly do best to get most out of it. We stayed in Serena (which was not really budget yeah BUT the best choice!!). It is within the National park so you have more time to do game driving in the evening and that tip from Julius was worth more than words could express. In the evening the sky cleared and we had a wonderful view on Kilimanjaro and even spotted a Lion that came out in the cooler evening sun. While most other tourists had to be outside of the park we saw all the bucket list animals - a lion, a hippo that grassed outside the water and super close to the road, and even a nocturnal African hare!!
Then we had a beer (that we bought before to save some coins) in the garden and finished our discussions.
The next morning the Kilimanjaro was as clear visible as possible (another pro of sleeping in the National park is the magical early morning view on Kilimanjaro!). We saw so many elephants and got the pictures that everyone wants: Mama and Baby elephant in front of the Kilimanjaro.
The visit at a Maasai village was equally informative and fun. I learned how to dance, pray and make a fire. I also had an inspiring discussion about climate change and maternal health.
So overall I had one of the best days of my life - Not least because of the insanely great guide, whose honest passion for animals is contagious and spreads pure joy and gratitude.
