This private 9-hours hiking trip to Mt Longonot National Park, located around 45 miles (73 km) from Nairobi city on the floor of the Great Rift Valley, has the best sightseeing opportunities and one can look inside the mountain crater. The Mount Longonot national park is a popular park for hiking and mountain climbing that takes less than 3-4 hours to climb up and down. There is a lot of wildlife to see as you hike and the eye catching view of the rift valley escarpments.

    Boat Ride in Lake Naivasha (OPTIONAL) Go on an hour  boat ride in this wonderful rift valley lake. The boat ride will take you to see the hundreds of birds in this lake including the diving African fish eagle which dives in the water to catch fish without ever missing. You will also go to the hippo pool and see the hippos as they swim and bleat inside the water while opening their mouths to over 180 degrees.

  • Mount Longonot National Park, Maai Mahiu, Kenya
    Drop into the rift valley and arrive at the Mt Longonot national park for your Hike up to the crater. The hike requires medium physical fitness and you will climb through the gulleys that dot the sides of this mountain.  You can make some rest stops at the designated places on the trek. You will get to the rim of the crater and look into the awesome crater below. If you have the strength for it, you can go round the rim of the crater.

    Great Rift Valley View Point You will make a scheduled stop at the view point on the side of the escarpment to enjoy the view of the Rift valley floor from a birds eye view. The rift valley system was formed 5 million years ago and the rift runs from the red sea through Ethiopia and Kenya and Tanzania. The rift valley is an active volcanic area and has some of the most interesting features including more than 8 lakes, dormant and active volcanic mountains and hotsprings and geysers  You can actually see the volcanic Mt Suswa from this high place with their evergreen craters and the undulating green rift valley floor. The view from here is just amazing. Make sure to take as many photos from here as you can.

What a fantastic day. I had read some of the previous reviews and highly recommend to come prepared for a more strenuous hike if you plan to go around the rim of the volcano! The trip was very well organized. My driver Stephen picked me up at 6 am to drive to Mt. Longonot. He confidently and very safely maneuvered Nairobi traffic. We arrived at the park at 8‘am and my guide was Joshua who was phenomenal. He kept a good pace and shared a breath of knowledge of plants and wildlife. The views were breathtaking. I am an avid hiker but I had misjudged the altitude a little bit, so going up to the top was more strenuous than I expected but doable. Bring plenty of water and wear a hot - also, a hiking pole may not be a bad idea. We saw some wildlife along the way - including a buffalo. I can highly recommend this trip

I had a fantastic time hiking Mount Longonot with Perfect Wilderness Tours and Safaris today. Particular thanks to my driver Victor, who provided lots of interesting insights into the places we passed on the way there. The hike itself was great. We went up and then around the rim. It was a tough hike, but the views were amazing. We also saw some Zebra and Giraffes on the way back down. I would definitely recommend! Some suggestions for you if you are planning to take this tour: - A decent level of fitness is required, particularly if you want to do a loop of the rim of the crater (according to my Garmin it was 11km with approx. 800m of elevation, all above 2000m). There are some quite steep, slippery and technical parts, but it is manageable if you take it slow and have a decent level of fitness. - Make sure you pack enough food and water (I definitely did not), in reusable packaging. There is a shop at the start of the hike where you can buy water and soft drinks, but the bottles from there cannot be taken up the mountain. - Wear sun protection (again, I forgot to pack mine and learned this lesson the hard way). There is limited shade on the hike, and the heat can increase quite quickly after a chilly start. - Wear good grippy shoes, ideally hiking boots. I believe you can hire a walking pole at the departure point, but I did not do this so can't confirm the pricing.
