Lion Rock, Sigiriya, Sri Lanka Sigiriya is an ancient rock fortress and palace built by King Kashyapa during the reign of 473 – 495 which is standing majestically 660 feet straight up. It is located in the northern Matale district near the town of Dambulla in central province of Sri Lanka.
The word Sigiriya or the Sinhagiri means the Lion’s Rock where you have to climb up 1200 steps before you reach the Lion Rock Fortress on top of Sigiriya. There are several platforms that break up the steps and allow for a little break if you need it. Today Sigiriya rock fortress is one of the most famous Archeological Treasure and UNESCO named Sigiriya rock as a World Heritage in 1982 under the name “Ancient City of Sigiriya Sri Lanka”. 120 minutes
Pidurangala Royal Cave Temple, Dambulla, Sri Lanka The Sigiriya Rock Fortress might be stealing the show as a must-visit destination in Sri Lanka but the Pidurangala Rock, located just 2.5 km north of it, comes in as a close second; possibly offering even more panoramic views than its counterpart!
It is a hidden gem now slowly gaining popularity thanks to the cult of growing Instagram influencers who have sealed the site’s fate, as one of the most scenic spots in the region. However, Pidurangala Rock also lays claim to its own fascinating history. This is closely tied to that of the Lion Rock aka the Sigiriya Rock Fortress, and the king who made it his royal abode. 180 minutes

Nanu Oya railway station, Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka Sri Lanka is a rather small island that is easy to get around with a nice train system connecting big cities. If you are after a short, fantastic train trip in this country, the travels between Ella and Nanu Oya (approximately 8 km outside of Nuwara Eliya) are the best options. Considered to be one of the world’s most beautiful train trips, the ride from Nanuoya to Ella is very popular among locals and tourists, and it usually gets fully booked on weekends. Though the distance is about 65 km, the train trip may take 2,5 – 3 hours as it has to cross over several mountains and pass some towns stopping to pick up more passengers. But the breathtaking landscapes along the way will make your time on train full of awesome feelings. You will glide through stunning views of green lush tea plantations, mountain ranges, then woodland forests and multiple tunnels. Engaging in a conversation with the friendly locals on board with you is also a joy during your train trip 240 minutes
Nuwara Eliya, Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka Nuwara Eliya was truly a magical stop in Sri Lanka.
It was emerald green tea leaves for days, Lake. Flower Garden, and quaint colonial buildings which made me feel like I was at home in the UK.
You can tell why they call it Sri Lanka’s little England as soon as you arrive.
The weather is freezing, it rains more often than not and there are tonnes of Colonial-style buildings dotted all over the place. Even the tea plantations are named after English cities and counties!
I was lucky enough to land in Nuwara Eliya on a super warm and clear day which was quite rare in October. 480 minutes

According to legend, it is said that Ravana (who was the king of Lanka at the time) had kidnapped princess Sita, and had hidden her in the caves behind this waterfall, now simply known as the Ravana Ella Cave. The reason for the kidnapping is said to be exact revenge for slicing off the nose of his sister by Rama (husband of Sita) and his brother Laxmana. At the time, the cave was surrounded by thick forests in the midst of the wilderness. It is also believed that Rama's queen bathed in a pool that accumulated the water falling from this waterfall. 60 minutes

Situated on Rummasala Hill, it was built with the assistance of Japanese Buddhist monks in 2005 as part of a plan to build temples of peace in conflict zones.
Today, it acts as a symbol of peace for the Buddhist-majority country of Sri Lanka, but its clean, rounded design is intended to represent harmony between people of any and all backgrounds. The immense white stupa that rises out of the Japanese Peace Pagoda is surrounded by statues painted in gold, while a nearby flight of stairs leads to a walkway that goes around the shrine, offering breath-taking views of the jungle, the sea, and the stunning Galle Fort.
