Island Peak (6,189m/20,305ft) is one of the main climbing peaks in the Everest Region of Nepal with an impressive and highly glaciated West Face that rises from the Lhotse Glacier. Being one of the 'trekking peaks' with very little technical aspects, Island Peak is not a difficult undertaking for a beginner climber wishing to enter the incredible world of mountain climbing. The Island peak climbing itinerary has proper and gradual acclimatization at suitable intervals. The 19-day journey begins from and comes to a conclusion at one of the most famous airstrips in the world, the Lukla Airport in the Everest Region.

We pick up travelers from any hotels they are at or the travelers can visit our office on the day of their trip.

  • Travelers should have a high level of physical fitness
  • We will be accommodated in Yatri Suites & Spa or Hotel Moonlight or Similar in Kathmandu (3 nights), standard teahouses during trekking (12 nights) and tents when climbing (3 nights). Most teahouse accommodation will only have shared toilet facilities. For tent accommodation, foam mattress will be made available. In climbing section, toilet facilities will be provided with necessary natural preservation. All accommodation are on twin-shared basis. However, single room will be provided on request and by paying a single supplement of USD 465. Also, understand that there are several places that do not allow single room accommodation. On paying single supplement, you will get a single room in Kathmandu but sometimes it is feasible only up to Namche Bazaar. Above Namche Bazaar single accommodation is not always feasible.
  • During our trip, we can enjoy Nepali, Tibetan, Indian as well as the more common continental cuisines. Breakfast(only) will be provided during your stay in Kathmandu whereas all meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) will be available during the trek and climb. While trekking, breakfast will be taken in the same place we stay the night. Similar arrangements can also be made for dinner. Lunch will be taken en route to the next destination. During climbing session, hygienic freshly cooked food will be provided. There will also be welcome and farewell dinners in Kathmandu.
  • While trekking, we will provide you a fully trained, English speaking, experienced trekking guide. Every 4 members are entitled to 1 assistant guide, also 1 porter for every two members to carry the luggage.
  • We will provide you a licensed, English speaking, veteran climbing guide. There is also the provision of assistant guides, for a group size of 2-4 people; there will be 1 main guide and 1 assistant guide. In a group size of 5-8 people, there will be 1 main guide and 2 assistant guides. Finally with a group of 9-12 people, we shall be offering you 1 main guide and 3 assistant guides. Other staff members will include one experienced cook and necessary Sherpa staff, mostly assistants who will assist in setting up camps during the climb.
  • This arrangement of staff will ensure the safety of each and every member in the group; also if any member falls ill, the trip will still go ahead as planned. Please also note that the maximum number of people in a group will be 12, as this is the optimum size for a successful trip.
  • It is a condition upon joining any of Himalayan Glacier's trips that all clients be insured for comprehensive expenses that might incur due to medical issues or accidents (this includes air ambulance, helicopter rescue, and treatment costs). Please note that we don't arrange or sell insurance.
  • Island Peak is not a technical peak but you will still require a good stamina to summit it. No prior climbing experience is required; however having some knowledge on using climbing equipments will still be an asset. There will also be a pre -ice climbing training for participants in the Island Peak base camp. The training will mostly be about using climbing gears such as ropes, ice pick, harness, crampons.
  • Island Peak climbing usually requires 5-6 hours of walking every day. In the summiting day however, you will be required to walk for up to for 10-12 hours. Therefore, it is advised that you prepare yourself by jogging or walking 12 km every day for around 3 months before your actual trip. Understand that by choosing Island Peak trip, you are considering walking in high altitude and remote area for many days. In order to make your Island Peak climbing successful you must have lots of willpower, the ability to tolerate harsh weather conditions along with reasonable fitness and stamina. It is vital for participants with pre-existing medical conditions such as heart, lung, and blood diseases to consult their doctor before taking the trip. Also make sure you make your conditions known to Himalayan Glacier at the time of booking.
You can cancel up to 24 hours in advance of the experience for a full refund.
  • For a full refund, cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure time.
  • If you cancel less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time, the amount you paid will not be refunded.
  • Any changes made less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time will not be accepted.
  • Cut-off times are based on the experience’s local time.
  • This experience requires good weather. If it’s canceled due to poor weather, you’ll be offered a different date or a full refund.

I did the EBC trek and Island Peak climbing with Himalayan Glacier and I'm glad I chose this company. Even before I left home, I was impressed by how well-run everything was. The website had plenty of information and Sabin from the Kathmandu office patiently answered all my questions over email. Once I arrived in Nepal, everything was taken care of, including transport, accommodation and climbing equipment. I really enjoyed the chance to meet Sabin and Bibek over a dinner before I set off for the mountains. The trek itself was exceptional and my guide, Pem Tenji, did everything in his power to make sure it was successful and I made it to the summit (even though we lost a day when our flight to Lukla was canceled because of bad weather). Pem Tenji was very experienced, knowledgeable, and a great travel companion overall (as was Jem Kumar, our porter). The itinerary was perfectly planned - ambitious but with enough time to acclimatize and train. It was advertised as a group expedition but since I happened to be the only person who signed up for that date, I enjoyed what was in effect a private trek. After I returned to Kathmandu, Sabin and Bibek even arranged a Covid test, which at the time was still needed for me to fly home. I'm grateful to Himalayan Glacier for organizing what was arguably one of my most memorable trips to date and I wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone looking for a reputable trekking and climbing operator in Nepal.

This is my third trip to Nepal with Himalayan Glacier. As always, the trip was superbly organized. Naba responded to all my queries and made sure of everything I wanted on the trip. He took care of me in every possible way from the starting to the end. He gave useful recommendations on trip planning and preparation taking all my wishes into account. During my travel time, Lukla flights were re-routed to Ramechhap airport due to repair and maintenance of Kathmandu airport which needed 5 hours of travel by car. This was bad but, Naba arranged everything properly and got a flight from Kathmandu itself. Also, we were booked on a morning flight. Superbly done. On the trekking, everything was perfectly organized. Our guide (Bimal) took into account all our wishes. We wanted to visit some of the places which were not included in our planned itinerary. But, he took us to all the places we wanted to visit. We are very grateful to him for this. The ascent of Island Peak was also very well organized; the base camp camping accommodation is very comfortable, well equipped. My ascent was successful largely due to Pem Tenji Sherpa mountain guide, who has extensive experience in climbing, including Everest. Thanks to Naba and the whole Himalayan Glacier team, for the excellent organization of our trip. I hope to visit Nepal more than once with your help.
