“Explore the hidden kingdom of Upper Mustang with a local experienced guide.”   Upper Mustang was an isolated Kingdom founded by Ama Pal, the first king of Lo in 1380 AD. Its capital is Lo-Manthang where the king’s palace still lies there. The last King of Mustang, Jigme Palbar Bista who passed away on Friday (December 16th, 2016) at the age of 86. Since 2008 Lo King lost his royal title when Nepal became a republic country after the centuries-old monarchy. Still, the royal family members are still staying there. The current prince owned his resort called Ama-Pal Resort.

We went for Tiji Festival Upper Mustang trek with Himalayan Wander Walkers. Both guide and porter were very helpful and caring. Due to size of the group all customizations were possible. ???? We have a mixed feeling about the festival itself but this is due to tourists' behaviour and their very little respect for others. The trek combines mountains views (Annapurna's range and Dhaulagiri to name only 8k ones) culture and way of living of locals and that is exactly what we were looking for. From the recommendations perspective please be prepared for strong wind, dust and changing temperature (semi desert area).

Old and untouched buddhist monasteries, kind local people, beautiful Himalayan landscape and peaceful atmosphere made this trek a truly spiritual journey. It was quite an advantage having a local guide in our group, as I got to know more about Upper Mustang’s culture and history. We got to eat traditional nepalese food three times a day and were staying in cozy (although cold and small) village guest houses. Although, due to relatively high elevation trekking was pretty tiring at first, so don’t forget to bring some medicine and have some physical preparation before journey. Also, it’s important to have sunscreen, hat, windproof clothing, sleeping bag, hiking poles and shoes, big backpack (you can also buy most of these things in Kathmandu or Pokhara for cheap price (not sure about the quality)).
