    In the year 1631, construction of this iconic monument was started. About 22,000 laborers and 1,000 elephants completed the construction in 22 years. This epitome of love was entirely built using white marble (brought from every part of India and central Asia). The construction was completed in the year 1653 and included an expenditure of 40 million rupees approx. It is one of the Seven Wonders of the World and has been enlisted as a UNESCO World Heritage site built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in the memory of his wife Arjumand Bano Begum, popularly known as Mumtaz Mahal. This white mausoleum was built in Mughal architectural style.

Azhar is our tour guide, he is really adept and knowledgeble, he knows the history of Taj Mahal well, every walk we made, he gives us the information we want to know, even the specific details of the stone and marble. We enjoyed the tour with him so thank you Azhar!

This was my first time in India and Azhar made our visit to Agra a fantastic one. He was really knowledgeable about both the Taj Mahal and the Agra Fort and provided us with insight into those two places and the city in general that only a person born and raised there would know. He was really flexible and let us have free time to shop for gifts when we mentioned that we needed some souvenirs. When I take my family back to India, we will definitely go with him again.
