Shrouded in mystery, driven by beating drums, and populated by some of the most fascinating—and virile—deities in modern theology, voodoo has been intriguing outsiders since it first arrived in New Orleans. Your tour begins on Basin Street, just steps away from the famous tomb which allegedly holds the remains of Marie Laveau herself. After a brief lesson on the differences between Haitian Voodoo, New Orleans Voodoo, Santeria, and Hoodoo, guests are led to Congo Square, site of Laveau’s countless ceremonies and rituals. From this sacred ground you’ll make your way to Laveau’s old home, the place she raised her children by day and practiced spiritual workings with a bigass snake around her neck by night. Zombie lore, pandemic history, and some old timey propaganda await you on Dauphine Street, where your guide will reveal the truth about voodoo dolls and traditional Afro-Caribbean medicine, all through the lens of ancestor worship and “magic” in America’s Most Haunted City.

Jeremy made this tour really enjoyable. We particularly liked how he spoke to us about the historical context and was clearly about what was factual and what was legend. He made sure that the wheelchair user with us was always considered. Highly recommend!

This is the only voodoo tour you should take in New Orleans. It was informative about the actual history and concepts of voodoo and we learned a lot while also gaining an appreciation of Marie Laveau - a truly amazing historical figure. Our tour guide was interesting and kept things fun and light, a great story teller.

My husband and I ended up being the only ones on the tour with Doug today and it was nothing short of fantastic! It was amazing to hear the ACTUAL history of VooDoo, with comparisons drawn between the religion and other paths. He told us at the beginning he hoped we’d come to love Marie Laveau as much as he does, and I’d have to say we were quite taken with her by the end. Doug had so much knowledge about our stops, but also a great deal of RESPECT for the history, culture, and practice all together. He was entertaining and funny— it didn’t seem to make a lick of difference that he wasn’t speaking to a large crowd, he gave it 100%. 10/10 would go on any tour with him again!
