  • Bywater Historic District, New Orleans, Louisiana, United States
    We'll meet at St. Coffee on St. Claude before setting out on a photogenic walk full of hidden street art and local art history taking place in the 9th, 8th and 7th Wards. The areas we'll explore in the Bywater Historic District are truly "off the beaten path" and go unmentioned by guide or travel books. You'll be introduced to local and traveling artists and the various mediums used for public arts as we amble down the street.

    We'll learn about local art history and interpret a work of art in the St. Roch Historic District, then stop for a short break at the 149 year-old St. Roch Market, where guests will have access to gourmet snacks, drinks (including craft cocktails, beer, and wine), cold water, and clean bathrooms.

    We'll interact with shimmering mosaic art created by international artist Laurel True, visit a multitude of murals created by some of the city's most well-known street artists, and explore a short stretch of road that has become the site of more than two dozen public works of art.

    We'll stroll to the edge of the French Quarter, where we'll visit one of Banksy's remaining works of art in the city of New Orleans and discuss the impact their art had on the community!

This was a really good tour of some of the Street Art & Murals in or about the 9th Ward district. We took the tour with Abby who met us at 2718 Saint Claude Avenue. It was a hot day and she sensibly wore a broad rimmed hat! She was witty, patient and full of gems about the street art we were viewing. Some of the art was actually on the pavement which would have been easy to miss. The tour took just over two hours and Abby never rushed us. She also dropped interesting recommendations for some of her favourite local restaurants. Definitely to be recommended, but carry a small umbrella for the sun!

A walking tour of street art in Marigny neighborhood of New Orleans. Takes about 2 hours with a mid walk break at a local market to sit and snack. You must take this walk with Abby! She's so funny and has lots of lore about artists, their lives, their art and local restaurants and hot spots. A great way to spend an afternoon with art, fun and to use up some of those 10,000 steps.
