In addition, the property’s 19th-century carriage house is home to the The Exchange Shop, originally founded in the 1881 by The Woman’s Exchange and one of the oldest women-led non-profits in the South.

The tour Guide is wonderful she was very open to questions and very well documented. Kelsy with her narrative allow us to live in the past and to see the hard life of people slaved and in the contrast the opulent life of the owner of the house… sadness and history. Wonderful experience

No matter what is believed Urban enslavement was just as brutal. The ironing and resewing of sleeves. The cooking 12-16 hours a day. The caring for the children, all children to about the age of five with you own child that could be sold by age 10 years old. Horrible. Sad. But the interesting revelation is that some.had been granted freedom and being enslaved for over 40 years and being sold to pay off debts and being bought back. I cannot ever imagine. It was a good historical tour. Loved the recipes.
