At Whitney Plantation, see the harsh realities and raw historical facts of a dark side of American history. The slave narratives and artwork recreate the world of a pre-Civil War southern sugar plantation and memorial in honor of the lives of the enslaved people who toiled there. Take a short drive down the Great River Road, admiring other plantations from afar and learning their unique stories. Pause in front of Oak Alley Plantation's famous oak-lined esplanade before arriving at your last stop, Laura Plantation. Hear personal stories of those who lived there, surrounded by sweeping sugarcane fields and historically significant slave quarters.     Recently opened to the public, it exposes the harsh realities and raw historical facts of this dark side of American history. On your self-guided walking tour, you will see slave cabins, a freedmen’s church, detached kitchen and a 1790s owner’s house. Guests will use their own cell phones to access a special Whitney Tour App. All ticket confirmations will include a link to download it. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own headphones for sanitary safety.

A very good visit experience, Isabelle explained all the way, considering that we are Chinese tourists who do not speak very good English, very slowly explain clearly, greatly reducing our difficulty in understanding. Visits to Laura's and Whitney's estates gave us a clearer picture of the history and life of the American slave. The Laura Estate narrator speaks very carefully, and the setting in the main building is a very intuitive reflection of the life of the owner at the time. The Whitney Estate provided a voice guide, especially in Chinese, which surprised us and made our visit a better experience. Overall, it was very worthwhile for us to choose this project. Also Isabelle stopped by to introduce us to several other estates, stopping at one of them for us to take a picture. Thank you very much for your service.

Isabelle made this tour experience stress free! She picked us up at our hotel and timed the experiences well. Also the thoughts on selecting which plantations was excellent. A heads up- Whitney is self guided, but many languages can be accommodated so it is still a good self paced experience.

Excellent tour. Cajun encounters unfortunately cancelled our Whitney plantation tour 1 hour before we were due to leave. Luckily Isabelle saved the day and took us on an excellent tour with great information on the way there and back! Thanks again.
