    Zoom through space and journey through the Solar System and picturesque countryside on one or all of the five drives. This is a great way to explore some of New South Wales. The colourful three-dimensional planets on the billboards are scaled in size relative to the huge observatory dome, and the location of the billboards is scaled in distance, just as you'd find the planets in outer space - 38 million times smaller than the real thing! You can see each planet up on a billboard, and like a treasure hunt, you follow them to reach the sun (which is the Siding Springs Observatory, and each planet is scaled in size relative to the observatory’s dome). Driving around I have seen many of these signs in NSW, but it was only recently that I realised there would be people who take the adventure and follow the signs.

    Directions from Information Centre in Coonabarabran to first stop “Saturn” on the right didn’t tell us to stop there and then turn back towards Coonabarabran. We continued 45km towards Narrabri (110km) and lost interest so turned around and abandoned the trip. Only seeing later that you had to double back into Coonabarabran. We ended up driving to Siding Springs ourselves.

    Fascinating and engaging looking out for planets. Would be great for small children on a long drive. Starting at the observatory and you'll be amazed by the distances
