This tour provides an alternative to large coach transfers between Christchurch and Queenstown ( or in reverse ) and is a more intimate journey than flying. The trip takes you across the Canterbury farming plains and eventually through the foothills to the Southern Alps. Further south the route takes you through the iconic MacKenzie Country, named after an infamous sheep rustler and past the glacially formed lakes Tekapo and Pukaki.
Tekapo boasts a famous lakeside chapel while beyond the headwaters of Pukaki is New Zealand's highest mountain, Aoraki Mt Cook. Photographic opportunities abound though weather permitting.
From here the trip passes through the world renowned gliding area of Omarama and into the dramatic landscape of the Lindis Pass. The drive continues past Lake Dunstan and into the Kawarau Gorge, site of the world's first bungy and home to award winning wineries.

We had one of the most otherworldly scenic trips from Queenstown to Christchurch and then from Christchurch to Kaikoura. Our guide was Dave Sanford(request him). Along a 6 hour trip he talked us through the history and geography of what we were seeing with strategic and memorable stops along the way. He is an excellent driver (and on these roads that is exactly what you want). So intelligent and conversational. So enjoyable to be with on a long journey.

Dave Sandford was an AMAZING guide. He gave us a great overview of Christchurch soon after we landed then spent 2 days with us. Has a lot of information, a great personality, and knows how to "read" his audience and tailor his focus accordingly.

Tia picked us up in Christchurch for us to start our 10 day adventure. We stopped in Hanmer Springs for three days and then she picked us up again and stayed with us as we toured the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand. Since she had been raised here and had been driving for several years she was full of information, cool tips, neat history, plant life, Moriori History. She was a hoot to be around and she made sure and confirmed all of our reservations prior to each days arrival. If you get the pleasure of having Tia as your guide you will be so thrilled. We miss her already.
