Just like the explorers before you. We are located next to Christchurch International Airport and open every day of the year from 9am – 5.30pm.

  • Hagglund Rides: We do not recommend this ride for visitors with heart conditions, back or neck pain or if pregnant
  • Children must be over 1.2 meters tall to ride the Hagglund and all children must be accompanied by an adult
You can cancel up to 24 hours in advance of the experience for a full refund.
  • For a full refund, cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure time.
  • If you cancel less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time, the amount you paid will not be refunded.
  • Any changes made less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time will not be accepted.
  • Cut-off times are based on the experience’s local time.
  • This experience requires good weather. If it’s canceled due to poor weather, you’ll be offered a different date or a full refund.

My daughter and I went along to the centre to explore Christchurch. The centre has got lots for everyone, we found the storm room was very cold but fun! Other great highlights was the history as well as the Husky’s and penguins. Definitely the 4D movie is fun but may be a bit scary for young children. Feeding times for penguins is 3pm so time your visit around this time. Overall it was a great experience and certainly watching the effects of climate change is real

We had no intention of visiting this - until I saw the description in a tourist brochure. We had some time to spare so got a bus out there (it's beside the airport). Absolutely loved it - but I think if we hadn't done a couple of the included activities in the ticket, we would have thought it was a bit expensive for not a lot. We did the "snowstorm" - that was fun. Also did the ride in the Humvee - that was real heart in the mouth stuff. Loved watching the little penguins & patting the huskees. Great place to take kids.

We were hoping to visit Akaroa, but the weather was too cold for that. Instead we decided to come here, mainly to see the little blue penguins. They happened to be offering discounted tickets for the 30th anniversary of the centre, so that was a nice bonus. We did the main activities here and enjoyed them all. We weren't able to catch the 4D movie as the showings were not very frequent. My daughter did the behind the scenes tour with the penguins as well. Given that most of us will never visit Antarctica, this is the next best thing!
