Sightseeing & Wine tour. The perfect tour for cruise ship travellers & tourists staying in the city. Join Brian or Anita on this fun and exciting tour to the vineyards of Martinborough to taste the regions exquisite wines. We will drive through the Hutt Valley region. We will visit the Lord of the Rings filming site at the Kaitoke Regional Park & walk across the swing bridge. We will stop at the Rimatuka  Lookout. You will enjoy wine tasting at three vineyards and enjoy a platter style lunch at one of the vineyards. You will walk through the iconic historic township of Greytown where the main street is lined with Victorian colonial architecture. The town also has a  number of boutique and quirky local stores such as art and craft shops.  Coffee and tea stop at a Grand Old Hotel. Visit C'est Cheese in Featherston where you can taste or purchase from an impressive range of unique NZ cheeses. NOTE: This tour can be altered to cater for Cruise ship arrival and departure times

Cruise ships - We will pick you up from the port departure area. Do not get on buses leaving the port to the inner city. Departure time will vary depending on Cruise ship arrival times.
Hotels / Motels. We can pick you up from your hotel or motel or from a prearranged site in the city.
We also depart from the i-Site departure point in Wakefield Street (opposite the Michael Fowler Centre)

  • Kaitoke Regional Park, Upper Hutt, New Zealand
    Just a short drive from the centre of Wellington is the Kaitoke Regional Park. On our way to the Martinborough vineyards we will drive through the Park The Kaitoke Regional Park was the filming location for Rivendell and the Fords of Isen in the The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy. The whole area is distinctly elvish, with light filtering through ancient trees and clear babbling brooks. You'll soon feel the magical tranquillity that surrounded the house of Elrond. The park contains nearly 2500 hectares of mature native forest, including beech, rimu, northern rata, hinau and kamahi. At the popular Pakuratahi Forks, ancient rata and rimu tower over a canopy of kamahi, hinau and miro. The park is also home to rare birds - kaka, yellow-crowned parakeet and a significant number of New Zealand falcon.

Thank you thank you thank you! I was a little dubious about going on a tour of my own hometown having lived here for almost 30 years. However I'm so glad I decided to take a break for the day and let 'Talk of the Town Tours' do all the hard work. Brian was a safe and steady driver, very knowledgeable about the local area and took us down roads never traveled before! I learnt lots of interesting facts, nothing was ever an issue and the day was flexible throughout. The wine tastings were topped off with an AMAZING platter lunch experience which was generously portioned and suited dietary requirements. Thank you Brian and team, I will be recommending visitors and locals alike!

I thoroughly enjoyed this tour. It had a range of experiences as well as the wine tour which made the day very enjoyable and informative. We stopped at the Kaitoke forest and saw where they had filmed Lord of the Rings which was in a very beautiful bush setting. The wineries were great and I enjoyed tasting the different varieties and experiencing a lovely platter lunch. I highly recommend this tour.
