Just off the Kapiti Coast is Kapiti Island, a bird and nature sanctuary free of predators and pests. This overnight experience offers the one-of-a-kind opportunity to stay overnight on the otherwise uninhabited island. Try one of the island’s many walking tracks and spot native birds in the canopy. Later, enjoy drinks & nibbles followed by a chef-prepared meal, then head out for a guided night walk to see & hear the island come alive in a different way.

When you reach the town of Paraparaumu, turn left at traffic lights, follow Kapiti Road to the Kapiti Boating Club at the end of the road, take the 1st exit left on to Marine Parade, cafe is on corner of Howell Rd & Marine Parade.

My husband and I visited at the end of September, and had a wonderful time! The weather on the way out was quite poor (I was nervous the trip might be cancelled) but it improved drastically throughout the day, and we were able to enjoy the beautiful serenity of the island. Possibly due to the weather, we were with a very small group - only 5 of us stayed overnight. We saw so many beautiful rare birds (including the kiwi!). When we woke up in the night, we took a quick look outside, and saw a bonus kiwi in the bush next to our tent! Food was delicious and abundant! Also, the weka will adventure into your tent, so be sure to close the zippers!!

I had an awesome experience with my grandchildren on Kapiti Island. We were well looked after from beginning to end. Everyone was very accommodating and helpful. We enjoyed the walks, being in the bush and seeing and identifying the birds. The talks about the island and its history were informative and enjoyable. The Lodge was warm and welcoming. The food was amazing. Not only did they cater amazingly for the different age groups but also their catering for my coeliac disease was first class. We came back home feeling relaxed, exercised and contented.

All the boxes ticked. Well organised trip. Knowledgeable guides. Magical bush walks. Birds galore. Silence. Food you wanted to have seconds (. Clear night for stars ( our luck). Comfortable beds. A kiwi emerged after the last rustle. Ka pai to Manaki and the team for a special experience. Jan
