Just off the Kapiti Coast is Kapiti Island, a bird and nature sanctuary free of predators and pests. This overnight experience offers the one-of-a-kind opportunity to stay overnight on the otherwise uninhabited island. Try one of the island’s many walking tracks and spot native birds in the canopy. Later, enjoy drinks & nibbles followed by a chef-prepared meal, then head out for a guided night walk to see & hear the island come alive in a different way.

Kim and I have wanted to visit Kapiti Island for years and we finally went last weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. We spent the most part of two days on the Island and stayed the night in a glamping tent. The nature reserve, birdlife, bush and scenery are amazing!! We even got to see a Spotted Kiwi at night in its natural surroundings. The highlight was the hospitality and manaaki shown by the Kapiti Nature Tours team. The food, accommodation and hospitality was fantastic! Comfortable, relaxed and very welcoming. Our group was young and old and there was plenty to see and do for everyone. We thoroughly recommend the overnight experience and will go again.

Such a fantastic experience. We walked all over the island and got to experience a little bit of what NZ would have been like before there were so many people and pests here. We were fortunate and got to see a kiwi poking around in the dying leaves not far from the trail, but also saw lots of native birds that you don't see everyday, such as tīeke, kākā and korimako. The accommodations were great for the island, and the food was exactly what you'd expect. Highly recommended.
