Viato confirmed my reservation and the time was available. The morning of the tour nobody came to pick us up. The local tour operator was never contacted by Viator.

This tour covered a lot of ground in a single day! I can’t imagine having to navigate the HUGE crowds of Tianeman square and MASSIVE grounds of the Forbidden Palace without a guide or native Chinese speaker. Gary was a helpful guide and very knowledgeable. He also did well to avoid the crowds, which was much appreciated, although sometimes he would wait elsewhere and send us into the crowds alone and it was difficult to find him afterward. We took his suggestion to stop at a tea factory that was a nice bonus— they were trying to promote and sell their product pretty hard, but I can’t blame them after a free 25 minute free tea ceremony/ tasting. The lunch was great, although it was relatively restricted options (pick between two dishes, extra charge for Peking duck; only water for drink). Overall, would recommend the visit and this tour!
