In the aftermath of the 1969 Northern Ireland riots, many republicans in Belfast felt that the IRA had let down the city's Catholic and nationalist community by failing to prevent the assault and burning of Catholic streets by loyalists. Billy McKee accused Billy McMillen, the IRA's Belfast commander, and the Dublin-based IRA leadership, of having failed to provide arms.
On 22 September, McKee and a number of other IRA men, arrived armed at a meeting called by McMillen and tried to oust him as head of the Belfast IRA. A superb Black Cab Taxi tour with Jared. An emotional journey very real, and his personal account of Belfast during the troubled years.
Thoroughly explained with many stops along the way. I can not recommend this trip highly enough, to get underneath the city’s past, present and future. His heartfelt knowledge was personal and explanatory.
The trip should have taken 1.5 hours but he spent twice as long with us, as he could see how interested that we were.
Take the time....
