Hugh Jordan was a terrific tour guide. He was knowledgeable about the history of the “troubles” and the involved neighborhoods. He was evenhanded in his presentation of each side and current on the efforts to encourage greater social justice between both sides. I think anyone interested in this part of Belfast history would enjoy time spent with Hugh Jordan on this tour.

There are dozens, if not hundreds of black cabs in Belfast, each with a different driver, and while they all drive you to the areas of Belfast where most of the violence occurred during the troubles and they all take you to the murals and the walled-off Catholic and Protestant sections, your driver makes a real difference as to how good the experience will be. I knew I wanted to do a black cab tour while we in Belfast, so I had researched the various drivers on TripAdvisor and I booked my tour with Hugh six months in advance. He’s the only black cab driver who has a five star rating on TripAdvisor and he gets rave reviews. And am I ever glad I booked Hugh, because we bumped into some of our tour group later in the day and they definitely didn’t get as good a story telling experience as we got. It was a bit rainy so we would stop at a mural, take a photo, then climb back in the cab with Hugh in the back with us while he shared the history and his personal stories. And what stories he told! Beside the history of the troubles, the IRA and Bobby Sand’s hunger strike that led to his death 66 days later, the British atrocities, the bombings and killings that occurred on both sides , the stories of the innocent victims of the violence, he shared his own life stories from living in Belfast during the troubles. His personal stories MADE the tour, and we listened with great interest to the tales he told! We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and I cannot recommend him enough! If it’s the BEST Black Cab Tour you want, HUGH is your man!

Hugh was an excellent guide with lots of real like stories from his own life to share which made it all the more meaningful. A louder speaker might be a good idea as it was sometimes hard to hear from the back
