I was picked up for my small group northern lights tour at 21.30. We drove about an hour away, kept entertained with facts ect and music if wanted. So our driver was Roman and he told us how they track the clouds ect and the likelihood of seeing the northern lights. He said that if it was impossible then the trip would have been cancelled but there was due to be a break in the clouds according to the data. However on this night we did not see the lights as the clouds just did not go away. There was a lot of waiting around in cold, but we could wait on the bus and Roman provided us with some hot chocolate and chocolates. I was disappointed obviously but it was of no fault of the company or Roman as he tried his best, even communicating with other bus drivers/companies sharing information. They did say that if we did not see the lights that we could book on again to try again within a year. The next day was my last night so I emailed bustravel and asked them if I could go again that night. They emailed me back with a ticket for that night, on the tour with Roman again. And on this night Roman found a spot where we could see the lights through our phone but not with the naked eye. Then Roman took us to another great location and there was a break in the clouds so we were lucky enough to see the phenomenal Aurora Borealis! It was truly incredible as they were all above us and dancing above us. I have an iPhone 11 and the pictures I could take were ok but Roman had a Samsung s21 I think and his pictures were amazing so he very kindly offered to take some pictures of me on his phone and email me them. He was very happy to help everyone on the trip get some great pictures - top guy! I then arrived back at my hotel at around 2.15am with a transfer to the airport to catch at 5.30am so had zero sleep but it was WELL worth it!
