I am so happy I booked a tour with Mas Montaña and Luis. He was a worthy guide and a charming person - he also has a great environmental ethic and is doing important work to make tourism more sustainable and friendly to the earth. He was able to identify and teach us about many of the plant and animal species in the region and held great respect for the custodians of the landscape who have been caring for the land for thousands of years. It was so valuable to see this side of Oaxaca. My mom, who is 58 and has knee pain, came with me. Parts of the trail were challenging for her but we were able to travel and an easy pace to accommodate her. For the last 45 minutes of hiking she chose to take the van, which Luis arranged to meet us at several locations in case anyone was unable to continue. This was a big relief as we had been worried about the difficulty of the terrain. Also, be prepared to eat fantastic food with a lovely group of people. Thank you Luis!

We had a fantastic trip to the Sierra Norte mountains with Luis Fernando (Más Montaña) - he took care of everything, including incredible meals and snacks, guiding us along a perfect 14km loop trail, and even booking an overnight stay at a beautiful eco-lodge in the forest near Cuajimoloyas. We had a private tour for our family of 3 and Luis was very accommodating. It was really easy to communicate with him before the trip, he drove us in a super clean and comfy SUV, and chose perfect locations for all our meals to feature different local specialties (the fresh trout was amazing!). He knows the community and area really well, and did all the legwork in ways that support local ecotourism. We spent one full day hiking a trail that was off the beaten path and offered just the right amount of challenge and excitement - every turn brought something new, from the magnificent pine forest with agave, to the lichen diversity, to babbling brooks, to spectacular view points. Spending the night in the cabins is definitely worth it - toasty fireplace and the silence of the forest in the morning. The next morning, we enjoyed the zipline and hanging bridge walk. Ever-flexible and with great suggestions, Luis even stopped to show us the ancient cypress tree in Santa María del Tule on our way back. Luis is so enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the forests, the communities of Sierra Norte, and Oaxaca in general - we had great conversations and learned so much from him. **Absolutely recommend this experience!!**
