Discover the incredible oasis of Wadi Shab - one of the last places in Oman where you can chill in fresh blue water surrounded by mountains. Enjoy a rewarding full-day experience as you explore this spectacular waterfall in a cave. Start the tour with pick up from your hotel in Muscat. Hop into an air-conditioned vehicle and set off on a 2-hour scenic drive through the otherworldly landscapes of Oman. Along the route, stop at a local coffee shop to try an energizing Omani tea. When you arrive at your destination, hidden away in the canyon of the dry river Wadi-Shab, take a very quick boat ride to the other side of the bank. From here, embark on your 40-minute hike. During the walk, experience the awesome power of nature which has forged the rock formations of this impressive canyon. On the way back, stop to see a beautiful lake located in the Bimmah Sinkhole. Finally, return to the vehicle and begin the drive back to Muscat where you will be dropped off at your hotel.

  • Bimmah Sinkhole, Muscat, Oman
    Bimmah Sinkhole is a water-filled depression, structurally a sinkhole, in the limestone of eastern Muscat Governorate in the Sultanate of Oman. A lake of turquoise waters, it is 50 m by 70 m wide and approximately 20 m deep. It is only about 600 m away from the sea, between the coastal towns of Ḑibāb and Bimmah. The sinkhole was formed by a collapse of the surface layer due to dissolution of the underlying limestone. However, locals believe that it was created by a meteorite, ‘Hawaiyat Najm’, which translates to ‘The Falling Star’ in Arabic, and hence the name. To preserve the sinkhole, the local municipality developed a park, Hawiyat Najm Park , around it, along with a stairway leading down to the lake.

This was a great experience! Our tour guide Abdullah from Gid Oman was right on time & helped to make the day memorable for us.. He was so considerate & protective as we trekked to Wadi Shab & then as we swam upstream he was always looking out for us. He knew the river so well & guided us to the cave & then to the cave in the cave, behind the waterfall to complete a fantastic experience. After a beach picnic he took us to Bimmah Sinkhole where the natural fish pedicure was on offer.

Amazing trip and exactly what I was looking for as a solo traveler! Abdullah was so kind and knowledgeable. We had a group with different hiking abilities, and he made sure that everyone was okay and took breaks as needed. Important to know that the rocks can be slippery depending on the rain that week; I saw people wear all kinds of shoes but was glad I had hiking boots. If you don't have water shoes, purchase some on the drive there (Abdullah stopped at a store and suggested this, very good idea). You don't want to swim and wade in the wadi barefoot. The current is moderately strong, especially near the waterfall at the end, so I don't recommend this if you aren't a comfortable swimmer (you can rent a life vest if desired). The sinkhole was a cool experience too, but I was glad we spent most of the time at Wadi Shab.

I joined Wadi Shab & Bimmah Sinkhole group tour with Abdullah as our guide. The tour went well as Abdullah was very helpful in every step of the way. This tour is not for the faint- heart but the nature’s beauty is guaranteed! I truly recommend GidOman especially on this type of tour as someone expert, knowledgable of the route & willing to assist are main factors to pull this trip off!
