Kyoto once flourished as the capital of Japan for over a thousand years until Tokyo became the capital and the emperor moved there in 1868. There are plenty of places worth visiting such as Arashiyama, which used to be the aristocrats’ summer resort, magnificent temples with delicate gardens, the alleys where geisha girls in kimono stroll, and the celebrated shrine with a tunnel of a thousand vermillion torii gates.     This is a famous temple which is an icon of Samurai culture. It once was the villa of retired shogun and was converted into a temple after his death. The main building covered with gold leaf is incredibly beautiful in itself. In addition to that, the harmony with the nearby pond and the surrounding garden makes the scenery magnificent. When you come to Kyoto, you can’t miss this site.

    This temple is rather small for a temple in Kyoto, but its dry garden is well known as a representing Zen garden. Please sit on the veranda and gaze at the rocks and patterned sand which lead you into a deep meditation just as our ancestors experienced.

    The beautiful tunnel of thousands of vermillion torii gates is very famous and picturesque. These torii gates are offered by worshippers as a token of appreciation for the good luck they received from the god of this shrine. Why don’t you offer a prayer here and change your luck?

Very informative trip and Michiko was very knowledgeable and friendly answering all of our questions and keeping us up to date with the plan and where we were going. Even added an additional stop as there was a festival happening nearby. She was caring and attended to all our needs, she was also interactive as the tour guide.

Our tour guide Hisachi was exceptional. He is a licensed tour guide and was very knowledgeable. Our Shinkansen came in a few minutes later than our appointment time and he was very patient/flexible with our meeting time. Every spot he took was worth the trip from Tokyo.

This was the best way to spend your first day in Kyoto! There was no way we would have been able to see all the incredible sites that Nozomi (our guide) brought us too on our own! Our guide went above and beyond to help us find our food we have wanted to try and it was like having our own personal photographer. Couldn’t recommend this experience any more!
