There are as many metaphors to describe what locals call 'down in the Buckskin' as there are people who have been there. I choose the word 'in' because you are literally inside the walls of the world's longest slot canyon. According to the Bureau of Land Management ('BLM') website, Buckskin Gulch is 16 miles long (around 26 km) from the Buckskin Trailhead to the Paria Canyon and over 500 feet (around 150m) deep at its confluence with the Paria River. There are places in the Buckskin where you are able to touch both canyon walls at the same time. Buckskin Gulch is a photographer's and hiker's Mecca. Every corner you turn is changing continuously; the cliffs are water-and-wind-sculpted patterns of colors, light and shadows. You may also marvel and puzzle at the meanings of the rock writings (petroglyphs) from the early Archaic period (some are as old as 9,000 years). It was voted one the top 10 hikes in the world by National Geographic Adventure Magazine a few years back.

Yermo is the guy to call if you are near Page, AZ or Kanab, UT. He is extremely knowledgable about the landscape, trails, weather, things to do, and ways to maximize your time. I initially called Yermo to inquire about a shuttle from White House to Wire Pass trailhead for the purpose of hiking Buckskin Gulch. From the very beginning of my inquiry he gave me loads of information about the area before I had even booked with him. Because Buckskin Gulch can be a bit precarious based on weather and trail conditions, Yermo kept me updated on trail and weather reports almost every single day leading up to our hike and I always felt he had our safety in mind first. His outdoor and archeological experience in the area shines through in every conversation, and while we only used his shuttle service, I wouldn't hesitate to book him for a guided tour of literally anything in the area. If there is one resource of information northern Arizona/southern Utah, it's Yermo - call him. You'll be glad you did.

Great slot canyon! Interesting geology. Jeff was our guide and he was outstanding! He was very helpful with our group of seniors! (only one ladder) Because he grew up in this area he was very knowledgeable about history, geology, botany....... Great company Yermo has: Seeking Treasure Adventures. I will recommend our tours to friends for sure. Can't wait to show my photos of both trips with friends and family.

It was an experience unlike any other. Our family group, ranging in ages from 80 years down to 12 years, chose the Middle Route, and our guide Brand immediately dubbed us the crazies. It was challenging but well worth the effort and sweat. Brand was an incredible guide. He not only pointed out all the amazing sites but also answered all our questions. Our 12 year old great granddaughter said it best: "AWESOME." Towards the end we also met up with Yermo, the owner of Seeking Treasure Adventures and had some great conversations. I cannot recommend enough him and his outfit. If you want to not only see some incredible places, but actually experience them with great guides, then look no further. If you have a bucket list, and if not you should, this definitely has to be on it. Thank you Brand and Yermo for a once in a lifetime experience. See ya next time, Rudy and the rest of the crazies.
