Paris Latin Quarter Food Tour

This tour was OK. It felt very short and we stayed on the same 2-3 blocks the entire time. We got some pastries, oysters, wine, cheese, meats and bread and a macaron. For $100 I’m not sure it was worth the amount of food we received. Our guide went in to the shops and purchased all the food while we waited outside since most of the places were so small. We only interacted with the owner in the last wine stop but he only spoke French so we didn’t understand much. We didn’t really feel like we learned much about the food culture in Paris or the process of any of the purveyors. Eleni our guide was very sweet and nice but very soft spoken and we couldn’t understand a lot of what she said. She was clearly knowledgeable in the history of the area but was a bit awkward at times. I’ve had much better food tours in other European cities.

Our group of three really enjoyed the foods and the visit into the Latin Quarter. We hit all the “must eat” stops in Paris - each one a delight. Pastries, bread and cheese, wine and pate, oysters, and crepes! Eleni, our guide, went over and above with our group helping arrange a much needed doctor visit as we didn’t speak French! This was disappointing. We could have easily navigated this tour on our own and had a similar experience. Our guide did not appear to have any relationship with any of the food/stall vendors that we visited. We ended up waiting in really long lines everywhere we went as if we were any other Sunday shopper at the market, especially the first 3 stops. On every other food tour I’ve done, the guide has established relationships with the vendors and when we’ve arrived, they already have the food set aside for us and a dedicated space to eat and enjoy. It was as if we were strangers and they weren’t anticipating any groups to visit. Additionally, it was raining and the guide had no back-up plan to try to accommodate indoor waiting or eating spaces. When we said neither of us drank alcohol, she also did not even offer bottles of water and we had to wander off to go purchase our own. I found this to be rude considering we had prepaid for everything and the least she could do was take the portion set aside for wine and give us a few dollars for water to have something to drink with our meal. Very disappointing, would not recommend.
