The necro-romantic safari, a tradition for generations of Parisians, is certified by the Paris Visitors Bureau and takes you on a trip with the time machine where the great celebrities of the past come alive. See the picturesque tombs of Oscar Wilde, Edith Piaf, Jim Morrison, Molière, Chopin, Isadora Duncan, Gertrude Stein, Héloise and Abélard and many many others. The walking tour was really interesting and themed on the macabre. Which is only fitting for a cemetery. Our guide was knowledgeable and told great stories, and showed us some out of the way tombs of people I didn't know but now I'm glad i do. First rate all the way.

Thierry was a wonderful host. I think I was the only American in the group, and he made me feel right at home. He gets the whole group involved.
Its really a performance. I can't imagine getting all the information he conveys elsewhere. The history of the cemetery, the anecdotes, and even a little naughtiness which he delivers with a wink. He's got the voice. A smooth, elegant, articulate delivery. We had to leave a little early and I didn't get a chance to say goodbye. But I noticed several in the group were taking the tour for a second time! That's the best review of all. Finally, it was a brisk end of January day. But sunny. There were patches of green. Pere Lachaise is not a dismal place. There's a good vibe there, and if you want to experience the real Paris (I'm an expat who's lived here for 20 years but my first visit), then I advise Thierry's tour. (Its also affordable) I've been missing out!
