Musee d'Orsay, Paris, France Paris’ other museum, the Musée d’Orsay, is the perfect complement to the Louvre. With your private guide, begin your tour through this converted Beaux-Arts train station with skip-the-line admission.
Inside, explore the artistic movements that led up to Impressionism and its colorful works. See Manet’s scandalous Luncheon on the Grass and Renoir’s Dance at Le Moulin de la Galette. Discuss with your guide the artists who preceded the Impressionists, like Millet and 'the Gleaners,' as well as those who followed, such as Post-Impressionist artist Van Gogh, whose Bedroom in Arles is on display. And, of course, check out works by the father of Impressionism himself, Claude Monet, including his famous poppies.
Learn about the art evolution and personalities that went into creating the Impressionist movement, and understand why these seemingly simple works were so revolutionary at the time.
By the end of your tour, you'll have learned about techniques used by the artists, seen both the highlights and lesser-known gems of the Orsay, and admired the beautiful architecture of the museum itself. 150 minutes

It's a debate that many Parisians and tourists indulge in: Which is better, the Louvre or the Orsay Museum? Of course, the Louvre is the most famous and largest museum in the world. And it features the Mona Lisa. But the Orsay, while much smaller and a relative newcomer, has some pluses of its own, not the least of which is the largest collection of impressionist and post-impressionist art in the world. Located inside the former Gare d'Orsay, a Beaux-Arts, turn-of-the-century railway station, across the Seine River from the Louvre, it opened in 1986 and is 574 feet long and 246 feet wide. It contains 12,000 tons of metal, more than the Eiffel Tower, and attracts 3.3 million visitors annually. The original station clock still keeps time over the main gallery. Over 3,000 paintings and sculptures are on display. Most noteworthy are van Gogh's Starry Night over the Rhone and his Self Portrait, Whistler's Mother, several Monet masterpieces and several of Toulouse-Lautrec's Moulin Rouge-inspired paintings. Also paintings by other masters, including Manet, Renoir, Degas, Rodin, Pissarro, Gaugin and Cezanne. Take a break at the 5th floor cafe with its huge station clock window for views over the Seine to the Louvre and Sacre-Coeur Basilica.
