On this Small Group tour of the Somme battlefields, you will discover a part of France that suffered severely in the violent and bloody battles of the Great War. A dramatic period of history took place here, and you will see the major sites including memorials, cemeteries and traces of battles, as well as of course the newly opened Sir John Monash Centre at Villers-Bretonneux. The Sir John Monash Centre is the hub of the Australian Remembrance Trail along the Western Front and its cutting-edge multimedia centre reveals the Australian Western Front experience through a series of interactive media installations and immersive experiences. A fascinating stop when visiting the Somme Battlefields.

    Within the cemetery stands the Australian National Memorial erected to commemorate all Australian soldiers who fought in France and Belgium during the First World War. 10,729 Australian servicemen are officially commemorated by this Memorial where every year takes place the Dawn Service during the Anzac Day celebrations on April 25.

    The memorial, located Close to the ruin of the Gibraltar blockhouse, was taken from the Germans when the Australian 1st Division attacked, took, and held Pozières village between 23 and 26 July 1916. The Memorial commemorates the officers, non-commissioned officers, and men of the First Australian Division who fought in France and Belgium in 1916.

Visiting the battlefield sites and cemeteries was a deeply moving experience. The different museums do a terrific job of making the experience engaging. Cannot help but think of what the Ukrainien people are going through right now, more than one hundred years later. Our guide, Honare, was very knowledgeable, interesting and amusing. We would love to book other tours with him.

This was an incredibly powerful and moving experience. Regis was a wonderful host with immense knowledge of the sites and surroundings we visited. He was thoughtful and kind helping my elderly parents at every stop. He truly went above and beyond what we expected. We went on the trip for my husband who is a history enthusiast and knew he would enjoy the trip but all seven of us came away amazed at how much we learnt and enjoyed. We highly recommend this trip to others and if you have Regis you will not be disappointed!! Fantastic experience. Thank you
