Hector and the Head Expeditions team provided my friends and me with excellent service on our 5-day Salkantay trek and the Rainbow Mountain tour. We had the pleasure of having Hector as our personal guide for our group of four. Hector was born and raised in Cusco allowing him to have a well-rounded background in the history of the Inca society. He is a bright, kindhearted man, and he is proficient in the English, Spanish, and Quechua languages. We are not history buffs, but we are keen to a deeper understanding of certain historical events, so it was important that he would provide us with this information and answer our questions in a way that helped us learn.
Hector’s team consisted of Alex the porter, Bolivar the chef, and Balvino the assistant chef. Upon arrival to our new campsites each day after hiking, the team already had our tents set up. Besides a great daily breakfast, they dished up exquisite three-course meals for our lunch and dinner, and boiled water was always available for us to drink or pack for the hike.
Our trek happened in June, which is the beginning winter months in Peru, so it was downright cold. Temperatures at night dropped to a freezing -9 degrees celsius at one point, however, the day temperatures usually ran between 25-35 degrees celsius which was comfortable enough to hike with just a long sleeve shirt and hiking pants; days were clear and often sunny.
Lastly, the unwavering attention to detail on our trip did not go unnoticed. Head Expeditions is highly recommended to all our families and friends. We will definitely use their services when we return to Peru for our next adventure.
Thank you, Hector and team! It has been a joy to have gone through this once in a lifetime experience with Head Expeditions. We wish you success on all your future endeavors!
