We are a family of an experienced adult, an experienced child, an inexperienced child and an inexperienced adult (myself). In summary: We all had fun!
The experienced riders got adequate horses and the guide gave them the liberty to advance at their pace, return, run, whatever. That would never happen in Europe! And I myself was happy with a lazy horse which just followed the known path at a human’s walking pace. Almost no need for me to give signals to the horse, no need to be scared of the horse breaking out, etc.
The landscape is stunning, the ruins you visit are not very spectacular but worth a short stop and a few pictures. The tour in the end lasted 3+ hours (from Cuzco to Cuzco, going up by car, walking back down), which was more than the 2 hours we paid for. Very happy!
