The views and hikes were amazing, however the company was horrible. Our guide consistently told us to hike ahead, and he would catch up to us later... to which he would catch up and actually just pass us and continue hiking ahead, leaving us behind. When we did have a chance to ask him questions about the area, he rarely had an answer.

The area is beautiful and breathtaking but what people don't know Is how poor the people living here. This area is not controlled by the state/govt. Instead it is ran and preserved by the locals who live here to avoid exploitation and the destruction of the scenery. The farmers who live in this secluded location rely heavily on their potato crops for food. Currently they are suffering from a drought which threatens their lively hood and very existence. My family and I brang gifts a bread, candies and toys to give to the children in this area. You will pass many on the long dirt road to the mountains. This was a very emotional experience for us. I cried tears the entire time just seeing the harsh conditions in which they live. The govt refuses to help. Seeing the smiles on their faces filled my heart with joy. They were so grateful for just a loaf of bread. Please bring anything you can to help these beautiful people. Pay extra. Don't leave garbage. Help preserve this beautiful place and support the local people who spend their lives protecting such an amazing wonder of the world!

Prestem bem atenção ao que vou dizer: a grande maioria das fotos da internet são editadas, logo, mentem a realidade sobre o local. Chegar à Rainbow Montain e ao Red Valley é uma frustração imensa. O local é "pálido" e as cores são comuns à uma montanha de minério de ferro. Tem variações de cores? Uns risquinhos verdes, amarelinhos sim... então, se você vai à montanha por ela como atrativo, esteja preparado para a decepção. Se for à montanha pela caminhada, pelo desafio da subida, pela experiência do trekking, então a escolha é boa. Na montanha toda tudo é comercial, saiba disso. Cholitas preparadas para vender de biscoitos doces à cerdo frio no topo da montanha. Banheiros e paradas no caminho são comuns e a montanha é lotada de gente local e de turista. Você vai viver uma experiência de caminhar por horas numa montanha com assédio de vendas. O caminho é bonito? É bonito, nada além disso. Saiba também que você passará 80% do seu dia em uma van ou onibus para transporte entre Cusco e a montanha. Algumas agências tem uma parada no caminho para café da manhã (na ida) e almoço (na volta) e estão inclusos no passeio. A comida é boa e caseira, uma experiência legal. A agência que eu contratei tinha um guia poliglota e muito simpático. Ofereceram agua e durante toda a subida estavam ocupados em saber se as pessoas estavam bem. No topo da montanha você terá pessoas amontoadas esperando na fila para tirar foto "na frente da montanha colorida"; terá gente vendendo de carimbo no seu passaporte à bala de coca. Eu me arrependi de cada centavo e minuto investido nesse passeio. Saibam que não é comum oferecem água e alimentos, você deve se ocupar com estas coisas. Honestamente, me arrependi de cada centavo e minuto investido nessa experiência.
